So, when I discovered my flat tire this morning, I asked Daniel to drive me to work. I had a deadline today for getting online help hooked up to the product, and I was afraid that if I spent time faffing around with spare tires and the tire repair shop and so on, I wouldn't make the deadline.

I'd been planning to go to the local Doctor Who fanclub meeting tonight, and so Daniel had made plans to go out with friends. I figured out that I could get to the fanclub meeting by taking a shuttle from work, followed by a short hop on the light rail. The only catch was that it had to be the 5:00 pm shuttle.

At half-past four, I discovered that a Help topic that I could have sworn that I'd written didn't actually exist. (In fact, I made a note in our bug database that I'd written it, but I rather uncharacteristically didn't attach a copy of the text I'd written, which makes it impossible to prove that I'd written it. Maybe it was my evil twin.) Anyway, I had to get that all sorted out, and the Help rebuilt, which meant I missed the 5:00 shuttle.

Still, no worries. I'd miss the fanclub meeting, but I could catch the 7:10 pm shuttle to Milpitas, grab some sushi for dinner, and catch a bus home. Not a bad backup plan.

Except for the part where it rained, and the 7:10 pm shuttle never arrived at the pickup point.

At 7:30, it stopped raining, and actually got kind of nice out. So I walked 2 miles to the Caltrain station, stopping along the way for some fantastic falafel at Mediterranean Wraps. I took the train to Mountain View, transferred to the light rail, rode for 45 minutes or so on the light rail, and walked a mile from the light rail station home. I got in just at 11:00 pm. (And when I tell Daniel all of this, he'll probably ask me why I didn't just call him and get him to pick me up, but honestly, why should both of us have had our plans for the evening disrupted?)

Actually, except for the slightly excessive amount of waiting on train platforms in not-quite-warm-enough clothing, it wasn't a bad way to spend an evening. I had a good dinner, a nice bracing walk, and I listened to a rather charming Doctor Who audio play and a cooking podcast. And now I have made a nice cup of tea.

Still, given what today was like, I'm rather tempted to just not leave the house tomorrow. Probably not practical. I really need to deal with that stupid tire.
