Outmaneuvered...

So, I'm getting ready to check in an online Help update, and there's this step that we're supposed to do to get approval, and without going into gory detail, it's kind of a pain. So, in my approval request, I ask if I can have an exception since my change is just Help content, and it's low risk.

And the approval manager writes back, "It would be courteous of you to [do this thing], but I won't hold you to it."

Knowingly or unknowingly, he has just guaranteed that I will do this pain-in-the-ass thing. Because I'll break the rules cheerfully and willingly, but I'll never lightly be discourteous.

Honestly, all this business process they've got around here, it would be much more entertaining if they just expected us to abide by the laws of chivalry...
