I had a somewhat rocky start to Stage 3 of the New Rules of Lifting for Women. The weight room was crowded as heck and nearly every dumbbell between 15 and 45 pounds in weight was being used by some guy to do bicep curls. Not the ideal environment in which to try to learn new exercises. The exercise I was most nervous about, the dumbbell snatch, actually went fine (and is super fun). But my overhead dumbbell squat is pathetic, and I managed to knock my own eyeglasses off while doing the reverse woodchop.

Plus, at the end of the workout, there's a bodyweight matrix of 24 squats, 12 lunges, 12 lunge jumps, and 24 squat jumps that you're supposed to repeat twice. I got about halfway through the lunge jumps on my first set, and realized that I was tired, hungry, and had been in the gym for an hour and 20 minutes already, and I bailed. Maybe I'll take another crack at the bodyweight matrix today.

On the upside: My planks are definitely improving. I can haul around barbells that I wasn't strong enough to unrack back in January. Plus, one of the guys who's a regular at the gym watched me doing barbell rows, and then picked up a barbell and started doing rows himself. If the guys are stealin' my moves, I must not look like a complete dork.
