Dear force of poetic justice in the universe,

I know I'm overdue to make an appointment to see the optometrist. However, having my current pair of glasses fall apart in my hands when I went to put them on this morning is not appreciated as a reminder.

Also, I'm well aware that the car is a bit overdue on its scheduled maintenance, so don't be gettin' any ideas.

Edited to add: After a trip to a CVS drugstore (no eyeglass repair kits), an optometrist (unexpectedly closed for staff training), and a Walgreens (success!), I've patched my glasses together sufficiently that they function and don't look entirely stupid. I also have made an appointment for an eye exam, and another to get the car serviced.

Yipes!

If you can use it, there's a new test that covers the same material as dilation does. It takes a photograph of your eye. Net positive - no time down due to GIANT DILATED PUPILS, and you get emailed a file with photos of the inside of your eyeball. Kinda gross but also fascinating.

I got new glasses after far too long and it's really nice - tree leaves actually have sharp shapes now. My night driving is better too. After mumble years, the anti glare coating on the old glasses had worn off.

I think they did that retinal photo thing on my husband the last time he had an eye exam. I've always been told that I have a beautifully visible optic nerve - when I used to go to the U.C. Berkeley optometry school, they'd always ask me if they could bring students in to have a look. I'd kind of like to see what a photo looks like.

I always notice the tree leaves, too, whenever I get an updated eyeglass prescription.

They did the same thing when I last got my eye test. Tricky to keep my eyes open long enough to let the photograph-thingie do its whatsit, but on the bright side, no dilation drops (something that'd worried me when people talked about how eye tests were done in the US. In the UK they just turn out the lights).

Hrr, I probably need to get a re-test at some point. Possibly I shall bribe myself to do it by getting disposable contacts for cosplay purposes at the same time.
