I Capture the Castle by Dodie SmithMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
A slightly bittersweet (though more sweet than bitter) novel about first love and coming of age. What really enlivens this is the keen eye that narrator Cassandra Mortmain has for the foibles of her eccentric family, and her honesty in examining her own feelings. I particularly enjoyed the ending, which was satisfying without actually taking the predictable route that I thought it was going to take.
Even if you don't normally read romance novels, this one is worth a look.
