Spent a really nice hour today with the intern I'm mentoring, going through some of the stuff he's writing and offering some feedback. When I was starting out in technical writing, I was fortunate to have a manager who was willing to invest quite a bit of time in working one-on-one with me to hone my writing. It's nice to be able to pay that favor forward, especially with someone who is so receptive. It might just be that he's more afraid of the editors than he is of me, but he seemed genuinely appreciative of the feedback.
In general, today seemed to be determined to compensate for yesterday's frustrations by giving me a slightly higher dose than usual of the kinds of experiences that remind me why I do this for a living. It's nice when the world works that way.
