I'm not sure what it says about my personal news-gathering habits that I often learn about major disasters first by reading about them in a friend's online journal rather than via television, newspaper, or direct word of mouth.* But this method has the distinct advantage that you get to hear right away that people you care about are okay.

I'm glad that everyone on my friends list in Minneapolis seems to be okay, and their friends and loved ones are okay. Take care of yourselves, guys.

*Just in case I'm not the last person to know: a major bridge across the Mississippi river in Minneapolis collapsed last evening during rush hour. Nobody seems to know why.
