It's not a noble motivation, but I will confess: One of the reasons that I'd like to get really strong is so that the next time someone gives me one of those, "Oooh, good for you, keep at it, you'll get really fit" speeches at the gym, where they blithely assume that I just started working out last week, I can just give them A Look and say, "Honey, I can bench press you. For reps."
(I know people mean well, and generally in the gym, I'll take all the encouragement I can get. It's the people who assume I'm a walking "Before" photo who chap my hide.)
