It always amazes me how much using BitTorrent resembles hitting yourself on the head repeatedly with an encyclopedia while trying to negotiate the purchase of a half ton of live eels in Greek. It's like they made it deliberately unpleasant so that people wouldn't do it so much. Which is maybe justifiable. I dunno. It's just breathtaking how much it sucks.

I just spent entirely too much time using Orbitz to book a trip to Florida later this summer. Orbitz gets worse every time I use it - pages take ages to load; flights vanish or change drastically in price between the time the search results are displayed and the instant of selecting a flight. I went through the whole rigamarole once, only to discover that it had reset my search from "2 travelers" to "1 traveler", and it would only let me book one of the ticket I wanted. So I had to do the whole damned thing again. Fortunately, I got my flight at a good price, which is why I still bother to use the damned thing. But sheesh.

Even LiveJournal is being slow and sluggy. I am going to post this and then go somewhere far away from the Internet before I succumb to the urge to blow it up.

Downloading a torrent is not too hard. Figuring out what the best quality files to grab are is a bit tricky but I'm learning. (And getting a crash course in different video formats.) Where I'm hosed is if something goes wrong - a torrent stops downloading, or my download speed drops to 5 bits/second. I cannot figure it out. It is Vexing.

Daniel points out that my usual response to being Vexed is to write documentation. (No really - someone once sent me into a towering rage at work - not an easy feat - andthe result was that I wrote an online Help system in 3 hours. My boss is really very kind in not abusing this quirk of mine.) Be not surprised if I pop out a guide to BitTorrent one of these days.
