Missing footage from Metropolis found

This is cool: Missing scenes from Fritz Lang's 1927 movie Metropolis have been found. According to another article, the rediscovered material is about 30 minutes worth of footage, so we're talking about really significant material.

I never realized that the version of Metropolis that I'd seen was a heavily edited version. I wonder what kind of shape the rediscovered footage is in, and when we'll get to see it.

Amazing, isn't it? I first heard about it through a friend-of-a-friend. I caught a cap from it in another friend's post on my flist (link to an English-language article in Die Zeit): it's going to need a lot of work and will never be pristine even after restoration, but it's still fantastic just to have it at all.
