Gone Postal

So, I had to take a package to the post-office this morning. (A friend had mailed something to herself from my place, and the package ended up being delivered back to me, so I decided I needed to go to the post office in person and get it sorted out.)

I have to say that I was really impressed by the helpfulness and efficiency of everyone at the Lundy Ave. post office in San Jose. A particularly ingenious thing they were doing there that I've not seen done at other post offices is to have a "floating" post-office employee, who walks along the line of people waiting, answering questions, handing out any special forms that need to be filled out in advance, and generally making things run smoothly. By the time most people get to the window, all they need to do is get their package weighed and pay for the postage.

Well done USPS! I certainly won't dread my next trip to the post-office as much as I was dreading this one.

I envy you that level of service!

I'd love to see it in the Farley Bldg. post office (the one that runs 24/7 in NYC) around the "rush" times such as Christmas. Rope-barriers and self-service postal centers are all very well, but sometimes the personal touch is appreciated.

I'm hoping that it's some kind of postal service pilot project that will be adopted everywhere. Because it is awesome.
