Random Hugo awards factoid

For reasons unknown to me, I woke up at 4 a.m. today with a burning desire to know whether radio/audio drama is eligible for the Hugo awards in the Short Dramatic Presentation/Long Dramatic Presentation categories. Not so burning that I didn't manage to go back to sleep for another couple of hours.

A quick google reveals that audio drama is eligible (in the short form category if under 90 minutes, and in the long form categeory if over 90 minutes). As are computer games.

Not that an audio drama or computer game stands much chance of winning against a feature film or episode of a well-regarded TV show. But it's nice to know that they are eligible in theory.

There have been non-film, non-television nominees before, in fact there was one this year. Also, the Prix Victor Hugo in 2006.

You're right - there is an audio nominee in the Long Form category this year - METAtropolis. (I guess that's what I get for googling the rules, but not googling the actual nominees.)

I'll still be surprised if it wins, but I'm pleased to see it there.
