This is a song called "Death Throes of the Terrorsquid". It is simultaneously hilarious and fucking epic. (Sample lyric, "We've defeated Vikings, and ninjas we have slain!")

I seem to remember a period when heavy metal bands felt required to take themselves seriously. I am so glad that proved to be a historical blip.

Even on the purportedly harder end of metal, there are bands like Bolt Thrower. Which sings Warhammer 40k-themed death metal...

For a variety of reasons, I drifted away from closely following what was going on in metal in the mid-to-late nineties. I am now somewhat belatedly discovering that the genre was having a hell of a lot of fun while I was away.
