Two weeks ago, when I filled up my car, gas was about $4.00/gallon.
One week ago, when I filled up my car, gas was about $4.25/gallon.
This morning, when I filled up my car, gas was $4.46/gallon.

I wonder if we'll top $5/gallon this summer.

I can afford to be amused by this sort of thing (and indeed, there's a part of me that hopes that higher gas prices will spur investment in energy conservation and public transit), but people with longer commutes and/or lower incomes must be feeling some hurt.

I imagine we'll all feel the pinch sooner or later. After all, food needs fuel to be shipped places... the truckers must really be hurting right now. And the cabdrivers won't be too happy either.

Apparently in India it's even worse, since there are a lot of poor people who rely on government-subsidised fuel for their vehicles. Now the cost of fuel is so high the government has had to cut its subsidy. Everyone's unhappy.

I remember reading an article recently about how the sales of stylish-but-not-aerodynamic trucks are way down, and sales of fuel-efficient designs are up (and companies are putting lots more design effort into that than they had). It mentioned that a refuel for a typical class-8 truck costs over a thousand dollars now.
