So, I've been doing a little stretching and balance routine every morning for the past few days. It takes about 10 minutes, so it doesn't add too much time to my usual exercise routine of walking or working out on the elliptical machine. I've noticed a couple of interesting things:

First, that the hamstring muscles in my left leg are noticeably tighter than the ones in my right leg.

Second, that I can generally balance longer on my left leg than on my right leg. I'm guessing that this is a muscle strength/coordination issue. So: Left leg is stronger but less flexible than the right leg. Funny, I don't feel asymmetrical...
In honor of this post by Mris, I spent my lunch hour attending a flexibility and stability workshop that was being offered here at work, rather than snarfing my lunch and dashing back to my desk to work on online Help. And I have to say, I feel fantastic, and I learned some good new stretches. My balance could use some work though. (Standing on one foot with your eyes closed for an extended period of time: more challenging than you might think.)

All of you out there who spend large portions of your day sitting at computers: don't underestimate the value of getting up and moving around a bit. Even if it's just a 15 minute walk.

I'm going to make it my goal to do a bit of stretching and balance work every day for the next couple of weeks.
